Create a survey

Build questions, set which ones are required, and save a draft.

Build a survey with a form builder. No setup or code is needed.

Start a survey

1. Go to Surveys. 2. Select + in the top right, or pick a template from the gallery. The survey editor opens in a popup over the page. 3. Name the survey. People see the name at the top of the form.

Question types

| Type | Use it for |

| Short answer | Names, job titles, one-line replies |
| Long answer | Feedback and open comments |
| Multiple choice | One option from a list |
| Checkboxes | Several options from a list |
| Yes or no | Simple confirmations |
| Number | Ratings, counts, amounts |
| Date | Start dates, deadlines |
| File upload | Certificates, receipts, IDs |

Open a question's ⋯ menu and use Details to add a short description or Attach image (JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, up to 5 MB). The image previews in the editor right away and uploads when you save. Respondents see it under the question title and can click it for a larger preview.

Required questions

Turn on Required in a question's ⋯ menu. The editor may add an asterisk (*) at the end of the title as a shortcut. You can delete it, and typing one at the end of a title (then pressing Enter or clicking away) also marks the question required. Respondents see the required marker from the form, not from your question text. Everything else stays optional.

Background color

Open the color control to the left of Undo.

| Option | What respondents see |
| --- | --- |
| None | Normal light or dark mode (default for new surveys) |
| Multicolor | Each question type gets its own background color |
| A solid color | That color for the whole survey |
| Custom color | Select **+** at the end of the palette to pick any color. Custom swatches are saved for your organization and shared with the team. Remove one with the **×** on the swatch. |

With a color other than None, the editor switches to a light-on-color look so you can preview contrast.

Reorder and remove

- Drag a question to move it. - Use the question menu to duplicate or delete it.
